Volunteering feels good and does good!
Volunteering opportunitites for the 2024 Holiday Wish Drive have concluded.
We’re always looking for people who want to have fun, are passionate about our work, and love giving back to their community. You can also support our mission year-round by volunteering in our office, interviewing our recipient agencies, or representing the Family Giving Tree at volunteer fairs.

Community Hub Positions
The Community Hub is a flurry of activity in August for the Back-to-School Drive and in December for the Holiday Wish Drive. We rely on groups and individual volunteers to help us set up the Community Hub space, receive donations, sort and prepare donations, quality check donated products, help load agency cars, and clean up the Community Hub space. Tasks will be assigned when volunteers arrive at the Community Hub, depending on the most pressing needs. Registration is first come, first serve.
Restrictions: Children of all ages are allowed to volunteer
Times Offered: For Back-to-School: Mid-July to August; for Holiday Wish: Late November to early January
Location: Family Giving Tree Community Hub in Sunnyvale
Registration: Drive Leaders may register for up to 10 spaces for Back-to-School and 15 spaces for Holiday Wish Drive; Community Volunteers may register for up to 5 spaces for either Drive. Back-to-School Drive registration is in May (Drive Leaders) and June (Community). Holiday Wish Drive registration is in early November (Drive Leaders) and mid-November (Community).

Become A Drive Leader
Anyone who is part of a group—a business, school, family, social club, or friends—and wants to help children in need in the community can lead a Back-to-School or Holiday Wish Drive. We work with Drive Leaders every step of the way and provide all the tools needed to make each Drive a success.
And, it's open to all ages - from 6-106. Simply sign up, and we'll guide you through every step.
What does it mean to lead a Drive?
- Encourage donations and participation within your group by posting backpack tags or wish cards in a well-traveled area or distributing them to friends and colleagues or hosting a customizable Virtual Giving Tree (VGT), or both.
- Collect and deliver the donated backpacks and/or gifts to Family Giving Tree’s Community Hub or, if you are using the VGT, promote your VGT to fund supply-filled backpacks or granted wishes. Or do both.
- Receive priority when signing up for Family Giving Tree's in-demand Community Hub volunteer shifts.
- Have a direct impact on your own community.

Volunteer Matching
Did you know that your employer may match your volunteer hours? A financial match of your hours helps us meet our goals and potentially serve more community members. It's an easy way to double the impact your efforts have in the community. Use the widget below to see if your company will make a match and how much. Plus, you'll find instructions on how to make a match request. It's easy and greatly helps FGT.
